Georgia and Lachie celebrated their laid-back countryside wedding at Harmony Forest Accommodation in the Margaret River Wine Region, Western Australia. Surrounded by Karri forest, open red-dirt fields, native wildlife and some of Australia's most iconic wine country, their wedding felt unmistakably them: relaxed, adventurous, a little wild and full of fun. Their Margaret River wedding film brings it all together through candid, cinematic storytelling, capturing the people, landscape and energy that made the weekend so memorable.

The Venue

Set amongst acres of Australian bushland in the Margaret River Wine Region, Harmony Forest Accommodation gave Georgia and Lachie the freedom to create an entire wedding weekend in one place. The lakeside lodge became home for family and friends, while other guests camped across the property, making the celebration feel more like a getaway than a traditional wedding.

The property was full of character, from kangaroos, kookaburras and emus roaming the grounds to hidden cottages nestled amongst the Karri forest, where Georgia spent the morning getting ready amongst the trees. The lake became a backdrop for everything from pre-wedding swims to their ceremony, while beyond it, open red-dirt fields gave us plenty of room to explore later in the day.

The Couple

Georgia and Lachie are fun, confident, laid-back and completely at home in the outdoors. I had filmed Georgia's best friend Candy & Harry's wedding the year before, so arriving at their wedding already felt strangely familiar. From the first hug, their warmth and down-to-earth personalities made it feel less like turning up to work and more like arriving at a friend's wedding.

That relaxed attitude shaped the whole day. They weren't interested in spending hours posing for the camera. They wanted to celebrate, be present with their people and let everything else happen naturally, which made their wedding perfect for the candid way I love to film.

The Wedding

The weekend started before the wedding day itself, with their closest friends and family helping transform the property for the celebration. There were marquees to set up, rugs to lay out and even a few willing volunteers on kangaroo-poo duty. It immediately set the tone for a wedding that felt communal, unpretentious and full of personality.

The wedding morning was just as relaxed. While Georgia's prep was calm and easy-going, Lachie was feeling a little nervous and didn't want to spend too much time taking getting-ready shots. Instead, I suggested he and the boys head down by the lake and kick the footy, giving him a chance to settle into the day without forcing anything for the camera.

Their outdoor ceremony overlooked the lake, with guests gathered around the natural slope of the land and Lachie's mum leading the ceremony. Afterward, we headed into the open fields for portraits, piling the bridal party into the back of a ute with champagne while I filmed alongside them from a quad bike. Between the red dirt, native bushland and endless open space, it couldn’t have felt more Australian.

Then came one of the coolest entrances I've filmed to date: Georgia and Lachie running through their very own custom footy banner.

From there, the wedding shifted into something between a reception and a bush doof. There was a bathtub filled with beers, paella, incredible lighting, rugs covering the dance floor and music that could carry on into the early hours without a neighbour in sight.

Georgia later surprised her mum by changing into a shortened, restyled version of her mum's wedding dress, before she and Lachie swapped the traditional first dance for a first song, performing Stumblin' In together while their friend 'Westie' accompanied them on electric guitar. Safe to say, I've now been converted to a first-song enthusiast. It was playful, sentimental and completely their own.

The Video

When I spoke with Georgia about their wedding film, I knew I wanted the edit to carry the same true-blue Australian, carefree energy as the day itself. She had mentioned wanting Got You by Amyl and the Sniffers, and its upbeat Aussie indie-rock sound became the perfect way to open the film. I paired it with the energy of the dance floor before introducing Georgia and Lachie through their "how far did you travel to be at our wedding?" game, immediately setting the scene for a celebration in Western Australia that their loved ones had travelled from far and wide to be part of.

Their speeches became another major part of the storytelling, but each had such a different personality that weaving them together was one of the biggest challenges of the edit. From Georgia's dad singing The Lion King to her maid of honour's immersive storytelling and Lachie's dad sharing memories from his childhood, I wanted each voice to have its own moment without losing the rhythm of the wider story.

Music became the thread that pulled everything together. Young Hearts Run Free captured Georgia's wild, joyful energy, while knowing how much Lachie loves Paul Kelly gave me the chance to surprise him with Before Too Long, paired with his dad's speech. I still needed something softer for their ceremony and heartfelt vows, and after trying song after song, Baby, I Love Your Way unexpectedly came on one day and I instantly knew it was the perfect fit.

Once the speeches and soundtrack were in place, the rest of the edit came naturally. I could experiment with playful transitions, energetic cuts and some slightly crazier techniques because that was exactly what the film called for. The final result is a wedding highlight film that moves between humour, tenderness and pure celebration, preserving the wild, warm and wonderfully Australian spirit of Georgia and Lachie's wedding weekend.
